This blog was originally written while the world was amid the pandemic. For several years, the one thing that stood out was the undeniable losses people were experiencing.
Many different types of losses. Loss of normalcy, loss of physical contact, loss of income and jobs, loss of large, gathered celebrations for weddings, anniversaries, and graduations. The loss of hopes and dreams, and the loss of lives.
Many people are still trying to recover from those years. You may be one of them. You’re not alone.
Feeling powerless is common in the face of loss.
Many feelings accompany loss. When we lose something important, there is a void. It can be such a powerless feeling. The death of a loved one is the hardest to grapple with. It feels overwhelming to be caught in a storm surge of grief. Wave after wave crashes over you. While death is part of life, it is a painful, powerless part.
While talk therapy can be extremely helpful, it can leave you feeling like a passive bystander rather than an active participant. I witnessed this in my life and the lives of others I have helped walk through loss.
